Lane Engineering was commissioned by the St. Charles Water & Sewer Authority to assist them in gaining compliance with the VPDES Permit issued by the Department of Environmental Quality. Lane Engineering performed an analysis of the existing St. Charles sewer system. The analysis included review of alternatives to extend service both upstream and downstream of the Town of St. Charles and an evaluation of the connection of the St. Charles and Pennington Gap wastewater systems. Lane Engineering assisted the Town in securing funding for the resulting $2.4 million project. Lane was also responsible for the permitting, design and construction administration of the project, which included over 20,000 L.F. of 8-inch thru 14-inch gravity sewer line, 7,000 L.F. of force main and a sewer lift pump station. The topography of the area necessitated that much of the construction take place within existing streams.
